Title: Impacto de la monitorización continua de glucosa en el rendimiento de deportistas
Author: Redondo Martín, Noelia
Tutor: López Samanes, Álvaro
Abstract: Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is emerging as an interesting tool to implement in sports performance management by providing real-time data on glucose levels in interstitial fluid. This work has focused on reviewing existing experimental studies that analyze the accuracy of CGM devices, the benefits their implementation can offer, and the impact of various factors on glycemic variability concerning sports performance. The search strategy encompassed the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, selecting a total of 14 studies with a total of 12,733 subjects, of whom 2,944 were women and 9,789 were men. The studies evaluated the accuracy of CGM devices under resting and fasting conditions compared to capillary blood sampling. The studies that demonstrate how CGM can facilitate the personalization of nutritional and training strategies were analyzed, optimizing performance and recovery by allowing the prevention of episodes that could negatively affect sports performance (e.g., hypoglycemia). Additionally, multiple factors affecting glycemic variability were identified, including exercise intensity, stress, sleep quality, gender, and body mass index. Therefore, CGM presents itself as a promising tool to consider for improving athletes' performance and health. Further research is needed to better understand its functioning and optimize its application in the sports field.
