Abstract: This study examines the impact of nomophobia and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) on adolescents, two emerging digital phenomena that significantly affect mental health and behavior. The aim is to review recent research to understand the relationship between emotional regulation and these fears, exploring associated factors, prevalence, and psychological and social consequences. The PICO strategy was used to guide the bibliographic search, following PRISMA guidelines. Empirical studies published between 2015 and 2023 that investigate nomophobia and FoMO in adolescents aged 12 to 19 years were selected. The review included questionnaires, cross-sectional studies, and systematic reviews, encompassing various methodologies and cultural contexts. The findings indicate that a high percentage of adolescents experience nomophobia and FoMO, with a higher prevalence in females. Emotional dysregulation is strongly associated with problematic smartphone use (PSU), and both nomophobia and FoMO correlate with anxiety, depression, and stress. Additionally, the inability to manage emotions is related to disordered eating behaviors and mental health problems. The conclusions highlight that emotional regulation is a crucial mediating factor between PSU and negative psychological outcomes. The need for interventions that teach adolescents strategies to manage stress and self-control, promoting healthy digital habits, is emphasized. Limitations include the use of self-administered questionnaires and crosssectional designs, which limit the ability to establish causal relationships. It is recommended to employ longitudinal designs and more culturally diverse samples to improve the generalizability of the results.
