Abstract: | The phenomenon of homelessness in Barcelona presents barriers to accessing healthcare services. This bibliographic review, conducted between February and April 2024, aims to identify and analyze these barriers and evaluate the effectiveness of strategies implemented to overcome them. The research is based on academic databases, local news articles, and data collected during professional practice. The study highlights structural barriers, such as lack of documentation and a stable address, hinder regular access to medical care because health services are not adapted to these situations. For all of this, the prevalent health problems are exacerbated by inconsistent access to continuous treatments and medications. Social integration issues, including stigmatization and discrimination within the healthcare system, reduce the likelihood that homeless individuals will seek and receive medical care. Furthermore, the lack of coordination between social and health services hinders comprehensive care that addresses both health and social needs. The study concludes that although current strategies have improved access to medical care for homeless individuals, ongoing efforts are needed to address systemic issues and ensure equitable access to healthcare. These findings align with global efforts to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Health and Well-being) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). |
