Abstract: This essay aims to reflect on the inequalities faced by LGTBIQ+ people with intellectual functional diversity (IFD) from my perspective, as a white, middle-class, lesbian woman with no recognized disability. I share my personal experience in the struggle for gender equality and LGTBIQ+ rights, highlighting the importance of equal opportunities and the depathologization of homosexuality, while dismantling those biomedical perspectives that reduce people to their disability, ignoring their dimensions as full human beings with desires, needs and rights of their own. With the voice of the protagonists, I intend to address the lack of self-determination and freedom experienced by people with DFI, reflecting on how this situation can limit their lives in such fundamental aspects as sexual autonomy and the ability to decide. Finally, I denounce the oppression suffered by these people in a heteronormative, patriarchal and ableist society, expressing the need to make their voices and realities visible in social policies through a gender, intersectional and feminist perspective.
