Abstract: Over the year 2010, the Virtual Library of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) finishes the project initiated in 2009 of redefining, facing European higher education area (EHEA), the indicators that will serve to understand, to analyze and to exploit the collections and the services offered to users, and implementing actions of processes continuous improvement. In turn, the project has served to reorganize the processes of collecting, processing and data storage to be undertaken. Following the example of similar processes implemented in Spain, like for example the one of the UCM, is developing a catalogue of useful indicators for the management of each one of the services and tasks that the library develops, and at the same time it serves to contextualize and explain our activities. But the work does not stop here, and from the identified needs, there have been defined various reports that are generated for the monitoring and evaluation of our activity, at the same time the procedures and responsibilities relating to data collection to ensure consistency and reliability of these data have been detailed. In the current framework of the Catalan library system and in the Spanish one there are several effective initiatives to collect data and develop indicators that serve to draw the whole library system, and of the higher education in particular, that allow to evaluate their performance and quality. However, understanding the nature of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), distance and virtual learning, such tools do not allow us a proper analysis of the reality of the Virtual Library. It is for this reason and in a spirit of open dialogue, from the Library of the UOC, we want to present our work on this project of redefining the indicators to adapt the system of improvements and quality to the nature of virtuality that characterizes us.
