Abstract: Clinical features and treatment of academic and examination anxiety as a specific kind of situational phobia. Academic and examination anxiety as a specific situational phobia is a childhood and adolescent disorder with perturbing and negative effects. It bears an impact on mental and emotional health, academic outcomes and social integration of students suffering from it. Clinical features of such disorder are specified in this article. Moreover, we have included a clinical case of a fourteen-year old adolescent who suffered from this school phobic disorder, along with low personal self-esteem and difficulties adapting to his group-class. A cognitive-behavioural evaluation and treatment was applied to the subject with the purpose of overcoming the phobia and improving his academic and social outcomes. The therapeutic tools to be outlined among those used are in vivo exposure, as well as learning and using anxiety-control mechanisms (Jacobson relaxation and cognitive restructuring). Lastly, this therapeutic strategy has been possible thanks to the coordination and collaboration of an interdisciplinary team.
