Abstract: Franco's government led to the restriction of freedoms of all spanish citizens for more than three decades, and press freedom wasn't a exception. The control and monitoring of the press activities and the professionals was conducted in a thorough and meticulous way, and very significantly affect the daily lives of journalists. This paper has made a detailed investigation of the factors which led to this control, starting with the historical background, the reasons for this control and its evolution during the dictatorship.
