Abstract: The Geographic Information Systems have become important in recent times thanks to the development of technologies that rely on. This project is about them, and it does spill from two: the theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part of the project will be a review of why they are serving the Geographic Information Systems. To better understand it, there are treated lightly some general concepts on geodesy and cartography. The practical part describes how the project has created a Geographic Information System that allows data processing in Haiti and that facilitates the creation of several maps. Additionally, to see a real use of what can be done with them, also described how they have designed an application that allows the computation of optimal routes between two points, starting as a base network of roads Haiti. Finally, it describes how we implemented a control impassable stretches of road, which will not be considered when calculating routes.
