Abstract: | This master's degree dissertation aims to analyse the budgetary impact of the 2011 Great East Japan earthquake, as well as its influence on Japan's macroeconomic parameters. Firstly, the mechanisms for budget approval at the insular state are explored, along with the influence of the earthquake on the main Japanese economic descriptors, modified simultaneously by the LDP's Abenomics strategy. Then, the main items of the different extraordinary budgets since 2011 are studied, in order to analyse the relative weight of restoration and reconstruction investment after the great earthquake. The palliative or resilience-building orientation of each budget item is studied, to conclude that the Tohoku earthquake has provided Japan with the opportunity of building resilience through an innovative reconstruction strategy. |
