Abstract: In the present work, a numerical method to obtain the design loads of a wind turbine is developed. For this, a multibody scheme able to deal with components with different elastic requirements is proposed: large deformations in blades and negligible in the nacelle. So, depending on the expected element¿s deformation, either a flexible or rigid formulation is to be used to optimize the model. The proposed formulation solves the equations of motion using the local observer frame method in order to decrease the system¿s non-linearity. The flexible elements (blades and tower) are modelled as beams, meanwhile the more rigid ones (nacelle and hub) are evaluated as rigid solids.
