Abstract: At the end of the 19th century there was a change in the perception of space in literature, since what had until then been understood as a simple stage where the narrative action was developed began to be observed as a literary subject in itself. The cities, meeting points and exchange of the multitudes and generators of modernity, have been very present in literary studies to be rich and paradigmatic examples where this space is mixed with human activity and symbolism. One of the branches of research in this field has specialized in the analysis of the so-called literary maps, understood as the study of the construction of spaces through literature at a conceptual level. This work has the will to deepen in this field of investigation from the observation of a concrete case. That is why the central part of this study will be the analysis of the literary map of the city of Ferrara built by the Italian author Giorgio Bassani through the set of stories that make up Cinque storie ferraresi.
