Abstract: Viruses recognize their host cells using proteins on their surface that are able to bind certain carbohydrates that are part of the cellular glycocalyx. These recognition proteins are targets for the development of broad spectrum antiviral drugs, since the cellular elements to which they bind are recognized by many different viral types, some of them very far from each other from the point of view of the evolution. To obtain compounds with possible antiviral effects, a study of the binding sites has been carried out, and through structural biology techniques such as molecular docking or virtual screening, compounds with presumable antiviral activity against the studied receptors have been obtained. With these potential drugs, comparative and viability analyzes have been carried out regarding their pharmacokinetic properties, to test out if these compounds could be used as medicines. In short, with these methods we have obtained a series of compounds that could act properly against viral entry proteins. Despite this, it would be necessary to deep in the computational approach to the problem posed. Besides, conducting experimental studies with the compounds obtained is still essential for the final development of the drugs, although the computational tools allow us to orient the process by shortening the execution times.
