Title: | Kurosawa: Un puente entre Japón y Occidente |
Author: | Gómez Bao, Eduard |
Tutor: | Pagès Parra, Ruth |
Abstract: | We begin this dissertation with an introduction to the essential ideas to understand the work of Japanese director Akira Kurosawa. We will do this from the research of materials made by film scholars, documentaries, directors influenced by him or people from his environment. Concepts such as movement, the relationship between individual and society or its influence on the part of the West are just some. From here, we will move on to the content and formal analysis of four films that we have considered to bring together in their entirety the key aspects of their cinematography. Then, by comparing his style and the international recognition of the director by the public and critics, we will draw our conclusions about the correct approach to his work. We discard a perspective tied to a specific culture, be it Western or Japanese, to give rise to a global dialectic between different identities, ideologies, disciplines and artists from around the world. |
