Abstract: Since being overweight is a risk factor for many fatal diseases, research has attempted to identify factors that make people vulnerable overeating. This work is based on a systematic review of qualitative studies with the aim of summarizing the evidence on the relationships established between emotions and eating behaviour. The results indicate a positive correlation between emotions and eating, the latter often influenced by emotional states. There is also a positive correlation between negative mood and choice hypercaloric food. Manufacturers and vendors, aware of this relationship have used these human needs for its own benefit. Understanding how emotions are related to feeding behaviour may increase the effectiveness of interventions designed to improve recommendations and eating habits that will determine the health and quality of life's population.
