Author: Ramírez Sunyer, Mercè
Tutor: Vidal Palomino, Jordi
Abstract: Music, a fleeting aspect of society, is present in the Ancient Near Eastern in many environments. Given the cultural relationship of music with its surroundings, how important was it and what was the influence of music in the Ancient Near Eastern? The purpose of this Master's Final Project (MFP) is to answer these questions. We will analyze the information that mythology provides us to understand their musical thinking and we will see how the decipherment of musical notation gives us a signal of the importance of music and its high knowledge. We will introduce ourselves into the world of musicians and we will investigate the most representative instruments. In order to reflect on the areas and environments where music was developed, we have differentiated several perspectives: the relative to the banquets, the one from the funerary context, the one that has to do with the army, the one that accompanies the works, the one of the court and in other places such as sowing and harvest parties or even curing. The tools for analyzing and interlacing the appropriate reflections have been the textual, iconographic and archaeological sources, putting them in dialogue in order to provide a polyhedral vision that belongs to the studies of this master's degree.
