Title: ¿Dónde están las mujeres? La participación de la mujer en las ferias profesionales
Author: González Barbado, María Dolores
Tutor: Morales Pérez, Soledad
Abstract: The objective of this work is to make visible if there is inequality in the participation of women in the tourism sector, and specifically in the Meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) industry, analyzing their presence and participation in professional fairs. It will try to show if this participation is related to the presence of women in the professional sectors represented, and the way in which this participation occurs. The literature will be reviewed, and will refer to a real professional fair in particular, throughout the history of celebration. We also want to know if there is a gap in the scientific literature in relation to tourism and gender studies. On the other hand, it will try to show the progress that exists in relation to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goal nº 5 - Gender Equality - of the United Nations, in relation to the tourism sector. The study is carried out from a gender perspective, privileging the analysis carried out by feminism. Tourism can boost gender equality, but on the other hand it can cause an increase in gender inequalities if it does not consider the challenges it faces with a gender perspective, so it is necessary to build a theory that allows for an enlightening debate that generate concrete, implementable and measurable proposals. Because without gender equality, sustainability in tourism will not be achieved.
