Title: La traducción del género de humor basado en el uso de la lengua: el caso práctico de Arrested Development
Author: Gómez Fayos, Irene
Tutor: Llompart Pons, Auba
Abstract: Due to the technological boom, streaming platforms and globalization, audiovisual translation has experienced a constant growth in recent years, along with a demand of specialized education in that translation mode, as well as a development and revision of the published studies to date. Thus, the amount of audiovisual products of different genres is greater than ever, and so is the need to cross borders and distribute them to diverse cultures around the world. This work explores the complexity of this cultural and linguistic transfer that the translator faces, specifically, with comedy. It is addressed from a theoretical point of view, but also a practical one by the analysis of the subtitling and dubbing of Arrested Development. In addition, this work tries to prove the theory that the modest success of this sitcom in Spain is linked to the problematic linguistic transfer of the series due to its unique and exceptional use of language.
