Abstract: The experience of a traumatic event in childhood and adolescence is very common, since between 25% and 60% of children have had it (Barra, 2013). This experience entails a series of consequences in the emotional sphere that can affect educational success. Therefore, emotional education is essential, because it favors the achievement of skills and knowledge, and allows the development of emotionally competent adults. For this reason, the aim of this study is to investigate whether emotional education has a significant influence on overcoming traumatic events and on academic success in Primary and Compulsory Secondary Education. Using a quantitative methodology, 122 questionnaires established through 5 blocks were analyzed (83.60% girls; 50.81% of the sample corresponds to the group 25-30). The results showed that emotional education is a competence that is still to be developed in most adults, and that it affects the academic success of those who have suffered traumatic events.
