Author: Díaz López, Virginia
Tutor: Oliver González, Antoni
Abstract: A case study of the sitcom Frasier, characterised by a high frequency in the use of sophisticated and witty wordplay in order to achieve humorous effect. This paper studies how the complexity of the original wordplay could have determined the humorous effect in the target audience; it proves the need for meticulous planning by the translator, the effect that the complexities of the dubbing process have on the final product, and makes us reflect on the existence of the non-translatability of wordplay and the inevitable alteration in the experience of the target audience.
