Abstract: Ed Atkins (1982) is a Berlin-based British artist who draws, paints, writes and makes videos. His work has been exhibited in some of the best museums and galleries in the world. This paper analyses the artist's career between 2011 and 2017, a key period in which he created and developed a male figure who stars in his videos. It is a digitally generated avatar, endowed with the features, movements, gestures and voice of the artist. Through the reconstruction of the most significant exhibitions of this stage and the analysis of the videos that were part of them, the work shows the evolution of the artist in his exploration of the potential, limitations, contradictions and paradoxes of the digital world to represent the corporeal and also the way in which the artist strips the human identity in a world where the digitization of the everyday progresses unstoppably. The work focuses especially on the last exhibition analyzed, "Corpsing," to reflect on Ed Atkins' use of video installations to create environments or representations where the visitor is emotionally kidnapped through a mixture of images and surround sound full of romanticism, fictional realism and grotesque humor that is probably the key to his success.
