Abstract: The demand for translation has been increasing recently due to global economic relations and has been consolidated as a very important field within the marketplace. A translation agency, for example, must know the optimal way to manage a project as it is essential to ensure job completion successfully, and development of technology and software can help in that task. Management tools are widely used in the field of translation, linguistics and terminology, where it is essential to improve productivity by managing workflows well. The basic type of these tools are Computer-Assisted Translation tools (for example, SDL or Déjà Vu), but there are quite a few specialised tools, from the simplest ones, such as Translation Office 3000, to the most complete ones, such as PLUNET. The following research project shows the implementation process of a computerised translation project management tool, i.e. PLUNET, within the framework of a SME of linguistic services. This tool seeks to make translation project procedures easier, finishing them in full and in a satisfactory way, from the first contact with the client until the delivery and billing of the final product, as well as prioritising and defining in a more specific way the stages of a project. This research aims to study first, the SMEs of linguistic services and their basic needs as such to provide such services, what kind of methodology and the steps were previously taken by AltaLingua to complete a translation project and how they have changed after the implementation of the PLUNET tool. Through the analysis of this specific case study, the implementation of the tool and its impact on the tasks to be followed in project management were analysed to finally show the improvements that can occur in this type of company. The results indicate that, although small and medium-sized companies are reluctant to change their current workflows, the implementation of this type of software can be very beneficial when automating and streamlining procedures.
