Abstract: In developed countries, innovation has been considered a tool to improve their productivity levels. The objective of the present work was to analyze the behavior of the most important variables of innovation in Mexico and Colombia in the period 1995-2015 in relation to productivity. Methodologically, the study carried out an analysis of the state of the art of innovation in Mexico and Colombia through the use of international databases and a theoretical and statistical comparison was made. Descriptive statistics and statistical inference were necessary in this study. The results show the real state and the slow progress in terms of innovation of the two countries studied. The document concludes showing and exposes Colombia's low performance against Mexico, in the analyzed period of twenty-one years.
