Abstract: The evolution of telecommunication networks has allowed the emergence of new network architectures based on next generation equipment, resulting in the gradual appearance of new services and applications. This, together with the liberalization of the telecommunications sector, means that new business opportunities have appeared for emerging operators, based on the use and sharing of the network infrastructure of Host operators who have their own radio spectrum, also called MNO (Mobile Network Operator). This document aims to study one of these business cases that has progressed the most, that of Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs). The MVNOs appeared under regulatory obligation CTE/601/2002, which urged the dominant mobile operators to hand over the existing mobile access network, thus enabling MVNOs to provide the available mobile telephone service to consumers. The challenge is to delve into the features that have made these virtual operators play a fundamental role in energizing the mobile phone market, offering a higher level of competition in this sector through the introduction of new services and offers.
