Abstract: Adjustment Disorders (AD) are one of the most commonly diagnosed disorders in the clinical setting by both psychologists and psychiatrists. These disorders negatively affect and interfere with the lives of patients, as well as generate economic loss and high healthcare costs. However, there is no existing treatment of choice for AD based on scientific evidence. Here, we propose to test a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with Positive Psychology (PsP) for AD treatment. Using this approach, we aim to allow patients to overcome any stressful event by focusing on their vital objectives and cultivate their strengths and virtues. Following this aim, we will select a sample of 68 individuals diagnosed with AD and we will randomly divide it into two groups. The experimental group will be treated based on ACT and PsP techniques and strategies, while the remaining group will serve as control in order to compare the efficacy of these interventions. We expect these results will show an improvement in the variables tested during the examination before and after treatment in the experimental group in comparison with the control group, and that these results will last for six months after having finalised the intervention. In this way we aim to contribute to reduce the lack of efficient and protocolized interventions to treat AD.
