Abstract: Education and the education system have become a global issue. Traditional methods no longer serve to address the social, economic, and technological future that societies expect to come. This has led to the emergence of competency-based education to foster not only content learning but also lifelong learning skills and abilities. One of these competencies is critical thinking that has gained ground over the past few decades thanks to technological advancement and the ability we have today to stay in touch with huge amounts of information. One of the skills that is being promoted by future generations is the ability to manage, analyse, and confront large amounts of information. But it is not just a matter of information, but also, and following the guidelines of the UNESCO Sustainable Development Objectives, to rethink how we relate to the world, to others and to ourselves. The aim of the final degree project is to know the extent to which critical thinking is entering schools, is part of the student curriculum, and is an objective of the education system. To achieve this aim, a systematic literature review has been conducted. It should be noted that critical thinking is a well-regarded objective within the teaching and educational environment in general. But the conclusions of the review show that there is still a long way to go and we are still at the beginning of introducing competition in the classrooms.
