Title: Las necesidades espirituales al final de la vida: el papel del trabajador social sanitario en cuidados paliativos y cuidados paliativos pediátricos
Author: Seguí Escobar, Pedro

Abstract: The main objective of this research is to understand the importance that professionals give to the spirituality of the people they work with in palliative care (pediatric) units, influencing the fundamental role of social health work. The methodology used to carry out this approach has been based on a bibliographic review on spirituality and social health work in palliative [pediatric] care, add up to 9 questionnaires on spirituality care and spiritual needs: 2 of them are doctors, 2 nurses, and 4 social workers (the latter belonging to the Sant Joan de Deu Hospital in Palma and Inca). The results reflect a medium level of knowledge about spirituality but giving it a high importance (100%), and noting a disparity when investigating or asking about the protocols or guides used (denial of use despite its existence) and lack of specific training, "yes", having 100% attention to this dimension but a degree of frequency less than 50%. On the other hand, the results agree with the investigations carried out, adding also the low investigation in spirituality and Health Social Work. The most important conclusions are: the difficult conceptualization of "spirituality" and their needs in professional practice, the lack of professional training, the lack of incorporation of this dimension, the scarce use of instruments or adaptation of existing instruments to these needs, and the scarce research of the Health Social Work on spiritual care.
