Abstract: The intention of this report is to document the GeriaTic project being undertaken by the Barcelona City Council in the 22@ district. The report analyses the situation of the elderly in relation to information and communication technologies in the health, environmental monitoring and leisure sectors.Along with the information extracted from a discussion group involving elderly ICT users, an analysis of the documentation found makes it possible to identify the current market, products and services, unsatisfied needs and good practices related to the three sectors studied. The conclusions of the study point to three key aspects, namely the need for technology to be incorporated into people's day-to-day lives in order for it to appear to be something necessary and useful; care when searching for a modular, scaleable, integrated technological design, which matches the specific characteristics of a person and the changes throughout their life cycle; and, lastly, the consideration that incorporating ICTs into the sphere of the elderly not only involves the person in question but also professionals as a collective and society in general. Those three aspects make it possible to consider the necessity for the incorporation of technology into the lives of the elderly to leave the welfare model behind and be introduced to each person and society as a source of new possibilities and an opportunity for change.
