Abstract: The concept of digital literacy has evolved in different ways over the years in terms of the theoretical approach used to investigate its implications in the study of the gender digital divide in different real-life contexts. The main aim of this paper is to use an interdisciplinary approach to analyze some of the theoretical and empirical gaps in the study of the gender digital divide. We review some of the empirical studies on the subject and propose future research lines in order to fill some of the research gaps with regard to the implications of digital literacy in the analysis of the gender digital divide.
