Abstract: | Political polarization in recent times is an undeniable event in a generalized way throughout the world. With the emergence of social networks and their globalization, which allows us to know more quickly everything that happens in the world, it is possible to consider the possible incidence of this phenomenon in political polarization. Any moderately controversial topic becomes a debate on social networks, in which any user can express their opinion or knowledge about a specific topic. This means that it is much easier to promote collective intelligence or knowledge, but also that fake news is disseminated more easily. As a result of this, through the observation of 4 recent events of political debate in social networks, it is intended to approve or discard the hypothesis that social networks have had a positive impact on society, clarifying points and thus triumphing collective knowledge; or they have collaborated in a polarization whose main consequence has been hatred. The cases to be addressed are the following: the protests in Peru, the US elections, the abortion case in Poland and the exhumation of Francisco Franco in Spain. |
