Title: Urbanisme i mobilitat sostenible. El paper del disseny de l'espai públic en la promoció de la mobilitat activa. El cas dels eixos cívics de Vilafranca del Penedès

Abstract: The work identifies how urban planning, and specifically the design of public space, influences the promotion of sustainable mobility and in particular active mobility, which is that which is carried out with non-motorized means (especially on foot and in bike). Specifically, it identifies the elements that are necessary for a street to be accessible, safe and pleasant for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as to achieve stay and leisure activities on the street and not be only a transit street. This is important because if we want to have sustainable, cohesive cities and encourage active mobility, we need to have streets designed for this purpose. It is impossible to get people to walk or bike if the streets are designed exclusively for driving. Therefore, apart from identifying these indicators, a specific proposal is made for the creation of civic axes for the city of Vilafranca del Penedès, assessing the degree of compliance with the promotion of active mobility of these axes today, as well as a transformation proposal to meet all identified indicators.
