Abstract: The common elm (Ulmus minor) is emblematic species of the Spanish territory, compromised since the 20th century by the Dutch elm disease. In order to facilitate the restoration and conservation efforts on this species, this work aims to obtain a preliminary draft genome of U. minor by the assembly of long sequencing reads (PacBio). Assembly software Canu was used to generate 67.706 contigs with a total size of 1,09 Gpb and an N50 statistic value of 57 Kb. Likewise, software Falcon was employed, although a complete assembly could not be obtained, possibly because the initial coverage of the reads (29x) was insufficient. Nevertheless, this preliminary version is considered vital to better understand the process on a general scale, to detect pitfalls, and thus to articulate a robust assembly strategy for the future to generate a genome of standard quality for U. minor.
