Abstract: Unexpected loneliness is a multicausal phenomena targeting everybody, determining physical and mental conditions. Nevertheless, young people and the aged are in a situation of major vulnerability. The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the incidence of unexpected loneliness, due to mandatory social isolation. Digital technologies of communication can either booster unexpected loneliness or relief it. The aim of this study addresses how digital technologies of communication could be used it to reduce unexpected loneliness designing a plan-to-act by a methodological approach based on participatory action research through the following steps: a) literature review; b) community diagnostic by exploring insights related to unexpected loneliness and the use of digital technologies of communication and c) final design of a plan-to-act. The key element of this design consists of the humanization of technology, by means of offline and online transmedia actions targeting all generations and making connections between people with unexpected loneliness, civil society and bio-psycho-social institutions.
