Author: Jiménez Herrera, Carmen María

Abstract: Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in developed countries. Lifestyle changes, mainly changes in diet and increased sedentary lifestyle, are responsible for the main pathologies that lead to an increase in cardiovascular risk. Atherosclerosis, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia and visceral obesity have diet and lack of physical activity as a common etiopathogenic basis. Therefore, preventive activities directed towards a return to the Mediterranean diet and a reduction of sedentary lifestyle can have great benefits in reducing cardiovascular risk. Nutritional education programs improve cardiometabolic parameters, risk profile and quality of life of patients. Health centers are presented as an effective and efficient environment for the implementation of nutrition education programs.
