Title: La democracia hackeada: ¿puede resistir el liberalismo político al embate de las redes sociales?
Author: Calmaestra Fernández, Azaray
Tutor: Torrents, Alba
Abstract: In this paper we will argue that liberal democracies are threatened by companies that base their business model on the collection and management of user data. This type of companies deploy surveillance and seduction mechanisms that violate our decision-making process, affecting the systems of political control that citizens have traditionally exercised in liberal democracies. We will base our thesis by offering a complex definition of what we can understand by liberalism and then explain how this type of technological companies threaten to agglutinate excessive power. We will then explain how our rationality, understood as the decision-making process, is vulnerable to certain types of cognitive biases that exploit social networks and limit our autonomy. We will conclude by outlining some scenarios from which to articulate a strategy of resistance to regain our political sovereignty.
