Abstract: The use of facial recognition tools through artificial intelligence (proctoring) in the academic world has allowed maintaining the quality and prestige of the institutions that carry out online assessments. This paper analyses the use of proctoring for online assessments monitored with facial recognition elements carried out by the National Intercultural University of the Amazon in Peru (UNIA). Its purpose is to propose an improvement plan, not only for its current use in admission exams, but also as part of maintaining credibility and academic quality in undergraduate programmes and avoiding impersonation, among other indicators. Due to the juncture, for conducting the entrance examination from 2020, the university has integrated Smowl proctoring into its Moodle LMS platform. However, its use has been limited to the specific need for continuity in its operations. Therefore, the main objective of the TFM is to provide guidelines for the implementation of this type of solution for all exams in the undergraduate programme. This paper delves into the current problems due to the COVID-19 pandemic and reviews and analyses various higher education institutions that have used proctoring at different times and in different circumstances. Through interviews with authorities and the provider of proctoring in the local Peruvian market, its effectiveness will be confirmed and the most appropriate way to implement it will be proposed.
