Abstract: This Final Degree Project addresses the phenomenon of chronicity in some cases and / or problems in the field of basic social services. Despite the limited specific literature published on this topic, it has been found that, in daily practice, chronicity emerges as one of the main limits to social intervention and one of the causes of professional discomfort in this area. To study this phenomenon, a qualitative research based on participant observation of daily practice has been designed, resulting in an exercise in narrative reflection that is presented in this work in the form of chronicles or stories. The study also includes the documentary analysis of several real cases and the development of a discussion group. With all this, a space for critical reflection has been created around this phenomenon and, above all, the possible responsibility of professionals and the social services system itself in the origin or maintenance of the chronicity of a case. Although this work does not pretend that its results are generalizable to any other institutional context, some keys have been obtained to better understand chronicity and to establish some starting points for its prevention and approach or for the planning of future research in this area.
