Abstract: This research addresses the influence that Japanese ukiyo-e art has had on the aesthetics of the art of video games, a subject that has been little studied academically. For this purpose, a deep analysis is made on the possible previous research that could have been done in this regard, investigating in articles and works on the impact that classical arts have had on video games, the relevance of the aesthetics of ukiyo-e in other artistic disciplines and finally, briefly regarding the appearance of ukiyo-e in video games. In addition to that, a balance on the historical situation of video games centered in Japan is made, as well as a brief observation on the evolution of ukiyo-e art and the most important genres to have a more comprehensive historical context of both video games and ukiyo-e. Finally, an in-depth study of the first three video games developed in Japan this 2022 and playable on the Nintendo Switch console is conducted. The titles analyzed to verify how ukiyo-e aesthetics influence video games today, as well as to check if they also use the basic artistic concepts are Pokémon Legends: Arceus, GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon and Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires.
