Author: Ferragamo, Daniela
Tutor: Rodríguez Martínez, Manuel Cristóbal
Abstract: This research work belongs to the field of the fantastic literarature’s literary translation, according to a different perspective of analysis for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll’s masterpiece, translated into Spanish as Alicia en el país de las Maravillas. The main aim is to reflect on the importance of the characters’characterization within a literary work through their speeches, that is, in the use of their own idiolect, beyond the author’s clarifications, and to evaluate the possibility of maintaining such characteristics in translation. To this end, we have proceeded to a comparison of the characters’ speeches among the original and three Spanish translations of different authors and periods, aided by a wide theoretical framework, which has allowed us to establish specific evaluation criteria. The study, which has been developed both according a qualitative and quantitative point of view, has shown that translation inevitably affects, albeit without excessive alterations, the characters’idiosyncrasy.
