Author: Chamorro Marín, Virginia

Abstract: Obesity in adolescents is a nutritional health problem that has increased in recent years, being a risk factor for the development of insulin resistance that affects the risk of contracting other diseases such as metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Objective, design a dietary pattern in a population of overweight adolescents associated with insulin resistance and to test whether the practice of physical exercise together with diet helps to prevent insulin resistance. Methodology: we searched for scientific studies published between 2012-2022, inclusive, using different databases in order to answer the research questions posed. A total of 18 articles were included in the review. Results: the results obtained show that adolescents with obesity have insulin resistance and increased ectopic fat deposition with an increase in biochemical variables. The combination of an adequate diet together with the practice of physical activity plays a fundamental role in the prevention of obesity due to an improvement in anthropometric and biochemical variables. Conclusion: the articles reviewed show the positive effects of physical exercise combined with a balanced diet, similar to the Mediterranean pattern, with low consumption of carbohydrates and fats, to improve insulin resistance in adolescents with obesity and, therefore, their long-term health status.
