Title: Virtualitat. Un viatge pel concepte a través de l’obra de Hito Steyerl
Author: Chamorro Serrano, Albert
Tutor: Cirac Claveras, Gemma
Abstract: This essay seeks to deepen on the concept of virtuality, focusing on the philosophical aspects that have led this term to emerge as one of the dominant paradigms -linguistic, sociological and conceptual- in the present century to designate the liquid reality we inhabit. Specifically, this paper proposes to analyze the reasons why "virtuality" seems to be one of the dominant words in our era, focusing on the semiotic analysis of voices of the present that dialogue with each other from various perspectives -technoscientific, sociopolitical or artistic- but where their meeting point is the virtual concept. To focus the discussion on this concept, we will start from the analysis of the author and artist Hito Steyerl, whose work focuses in a relevant way on the field of virtuality. From this central axis, Steyerl's work will dialogue with contemporary authors, whose thought is also related to this topic. In short, the objective is to make a journey through the meaning of virtuality in our time, to understand its relevance in our context, its sense of being, and its projection in the future.
