Abstract: Introduction. Muscle injuries are abnormal changes in the structure in a part of the body caused by external or internal damage. This type of injuries are the most common among athletes and the muscle structure contains 40% of the proteins of the human body, these can be degraded to obtain energy, other components or because they lose their functionality when they are damaged. Objective. Evaluate whether an increase in the usual protein consumption of a person suffering from a muscle injury can have beneficial effects. Methodology. A bibliographic research was carried out in two databases: PubMed and Scopus. Only randomized clinical trials published in the last 10 years were included. Of the 91 articles founded, 48 accomplished the inclusion criteria. Finally, a total of 21 articles were analysed. Results: participants with exercise-related muscle injuries were able to accelerate the number of musculoskeletal satellite cells, reduce creatine kinase levels, muscle pain, urea levels, and blood lactate concentration. In addition, they obtained an improvement in their body composition and an increase in their muscle strength, their musculoskeletal mass and their total antioxidant capacity. Conclusions. There is evidence about an optimal nutritional intervention for the management of patients with muscle injuries from the seventh day of injury and in combination with exercise, whether strength and/or resistance, or aerobic. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out studies which are started from the first day of the injury.
