Abstract: Introduction. Eating Behavior Disorder (ED) is a worldwide problem present, especially in adolescent girls. ED and its relationship with non-suicidal self-injury (NSAI) is a topic of great interest. The aim of the present systematic review is to address the characteristics of adolescents and young adults with eating disorders who present with non-suicidal self-injury. Method. A literature search was carried out in the Scopus, Web of Science and PubMed databases in March 2022. We selected, after applying eligibility criteria, those studies published between 2017 and March 2022. Also, the methodological quality of the selected studies has been evaluated. Results. A total of 10 studies have been analyzed, including a sample of 7,728 participants aged between 9 and 24 years. Of these, 5,327 were girls and 2,401 were boys. The results indicated that patients with ED have had ANS at some time in their lives, especially those patients who present with purging/attractiveness-type anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa. These patients are characterized by symptoms of anxiety, depression, perfectionism, emotional regulation problems, interpersonal, affective, externalizing, psychological deterioration, etc. Conclusions. It is of vital importance to evaluate the comorbidity between ED and NSA in the adolescent and juvenile population, in order to be able to offer them a diagnosis and treatment appropriate to their individual characteristics.
