Abstract: Suicide is the third leading cause of death worldwide among people between 11 and 18 years of age, coinciding with the stage of adolescence. Although this stage has always been characterized as a progressive process of autonomy, the reality is that the family continues to be one of the main sources of support. Taking into account the psychological consequences of violence in this context, the aim of the present study was to investigate the role of family violence in suicidal ideation and behavior in adolescence and to determine whether there is a type of family violence more closely associated with these variables. The method consisted of a systematic search in the main scientific search engines (PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science and PsychInfo) resulting in 16 sources of information after applying the established inclusion and exclusion criteria. These studies indicate that there is a clear association between family violence, suicidal ideation and suicidal behavior in adolescence. However, there are certain contradictions among the sources consulted in relation to what type of family violence is most associated and what variables could mediate this relationship. These contradictions, added to other limitations, make it impossible to give a clear and concise answer to the proposed objectives. In view of the above, the study highlights the importance of continuing to study this aspect in depth with a view to designing prevention and intervention plans to reduce the prevalence of adolescent suicide.
