Abstract: | On the skin of Abya Yala (En la piel de Abya Yala, as in Spanish) is an innovative and narrative digital product. It has been created under both methodologies of qualitative case study and journalist investigation based on stories. This interactive documentary is about transformation and healing stories of migrant and racialized women in Spain, whose roots are from Abya Yala— known as current Latin American territories. Their life’s changes have been driven by the agency of “Las latinas son…”, a social theater play produced in a collective process at Teatro sin papeles company. Deicy, Johanna, Nicole, Mercy, Lorena, Erika, Luisa, and Camila share how theater play has become such a powerful tool to drive community-based struggles, face intersectional oppressions and violence, and build self-confidence and agency. These women use their bodies at the theater stage denouncing oppressions and violence that affect lives of Latin American migrant and racialized women in Spain from decolonial and anti-racist intersectional feminist perspectives. |
