Abstract: Flashbulb (FB) memories are autobiographical memories that involve the contextual details of the reception of unexpected event news, characterized by their precision, vividness, and persistence (Brown and Kulik, 1977). This paper attempts to offer an analysis of the presence and nature of this type of memory based on the review of 19 empirical studies about Flashbulb memories related to an event of great social and media importance such as the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States. For this, searches were made in PsycInfo and PubMed applying the PRISMA declaration (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and MetaAnalyses). The analysis of the information was carried out following the thematic model of Braun and Clarke (2006), and the results have been oriented to identify, describe, and compare the main characteristics and factors of influence of the FB memories, as well as to assess the suitability of the construct itself.
