Title: Homosexualidad en el cine español. Siguiendo los pasos de Luís Buñuel, Eloy de la Iglesia y Pedro Almodóvar
Author: Romero Costa, Davinia

Abstract: For years homosexuality has been severely penalized in Spain, not only in the streets where relatives, neighbors and agents acted as moral police, but also in the cinema and on television, where Censorship was the body in charge of maintaining that Christian morality so acclaimed by General Franco. The homosexual group has been persecuted, mistreated and imprisoned, which has caused it to become the protagonist of a series of shameful events that are part of Spain's darkest history and that today continue to be unforgiven or forgotten. This work focuses on the evolution of the homosexual community in Spain and on the representation of the male homosexual character in Spanish cinema, starting from the cinema that was produced and projected in the years of the Franco dictatorship until reaching our days. Analyzing different relevant figures of Spanish cinema without which it would be impossible to explain and understand this evolution. This is a research work that shows us a journey through the social, cultural and cinematographic history of Spain full of lights and shadows.
