Abstract: Dyslexia is a learning disorder with neurobiological origin characterized by reading difficulties, which is often linked to negative social-emotional repercussions. Among these consequences, we find that low self-esteem is one of the main problems associated with dyslexia. This study tries to check if the reception of the diagnosis in dyslexia changes the perception in any way the perception that children have of their difficulties and, consequently, observe if there is any change in self-esteem. It is intended to address a study that investigates diagnosis and self-esteem as related factors and not asylees. Thirteen students (between twelve and fourteen years old), divided into two groups, boys and girls diagnosed with dyslexia (n=7) and children with undiagnosed reading difficulties (n=6). Both groups were assessed with two instruments, Rosenberg's self-esteem scale and Prolexia. The collected data was statistically analyzed with the help of SPSS software and compared using Student's inferential t statistic for independent samples. The results indicate that the group with dyslexia has a higher overall self-esteem than the group with undiagnosed reading difficulties. These findings support the importance of early diagnosis to avoid the imposition of negative labels that affect students' self-perceptions.Therefore, with the realization of this research it is intended to contribute, even minimally to know the impact of the diagnosis and to make visible the importance of studying self-esteem in relation to the knowledge and understanding of their difficulties.
