Title: Cómo ser una "persona normal". La construcción de la identidad de Furukura Keiko como mujer japonesa en la novela de Murata Sayaka "La dependienta"
Author: Gómez Márquez, Alba
Tutor: Serrano-Muñoz, Jordi
Abstract: This academic essay aims to define the identity construction process of Furukura Keiko, the main character of Murata Sayaka’s novel Convenience Store Woman, through three aspects such as individual, social and gender identity. With the help of Carl G. Jung’s theory of archetypes and Doi Takeo’s theory of Amae, also taking into account the gender roles that affect the construction of female identity, we will study the development and transformations of the mask of “normal person” that Furukura Keiko has created to fit into a society that rewards homogenization and rejects those who do not enter the norm. For women, this masks consists mainly of marriage and motherhood or, alternatively, professional success. It is hoped that the analysis of literary discourse through a psychological perspective will lead to new studies and serve as a reference for future academic essays in this field.
