Abstract: Within the available IoT systems, in the field of agriculture, those that have a long operating distance are common. This is because the deployment scenario involves large surfaces, where the devices are remote from the place where the data is processed, be it the cloud or the receiver connected to the network. In this case, the company I work for is dedicated to processing data on crops and facilities in the open field. Therefore, the communication scenarios are limited to LPWAN systems or traditional cellular networks, due to not having specific centers or direct connection to the Internet at the locations. Therefore, this work includes a comparison between two LPWAN systems: GPRS and LoRa. A specific scenario will be proposed for each system since they differ at the time of data collection. All this will serve to make a comparison in terms of message-passing methodology, battery consumption, or latency of sending the measurements to the database.
