Title: Ludus & Play
Author: Insua Redonda, Alán

Abstract: This Final Degree Project presents the proposal and teaser of Ludus & Play, a project of content creation for the Internet that approaches and analyses video games as a narrative media based on the academic work of several Game Studies’ authors. The central axis of the creative work, that follows the audio-visual project method, is the production and realization of a series of videos in a format designed for YouTube, combined with a streaming programme on the Twitch platform as an extension of the content. In the five episodes, different academic concepts are introduced through some of the most influential works in the video game world, which allow the audience to have a global idea and understand in a better way how this media uses its own influences and characteristics to transmit and convey to gamers some of the best fiction stories. Since this work is based on an academic background that lays the foundation of the entire project, a thorough investigating process was necessary in order to gain an indepth knowledge of video games and, in particular, of their narrative nature. The theoretical framework ranges over the birth and development of the academic movement related to this media, it sets out what we understand by video game in order to give an appropriate definition, and it explores the narrative dimension of video games in a complete way. The aim of this project is to highlight the importance of video games as a narrative art comparable to other arts like cinema and literature, showing what makes it unique and bringing closer the study of this media that has not managed to connect with a large part of gamers. In order to achieve this goal, the project must offer a light and entertaining content that does not leave behind its informative nature. This project includes a sales dossier laid out and designed to be introduced as a formal proposal for its realization. The document includes the creative section, that describes in detail each episode, showing the creator’s vision and the audio-visual references. Furthermore, it explains the viability of the project and its distribution plan. Ludus & Play is a very personal idea, motivated by my passion towards this media, that aims to bring closer to the public the way I see video games.
